The fast bowler Poised for a Significant Contribution in the Ashes

Pat Cummins bowling

Pat Cummins has taken over 300 dismissals in 71 appearances with an impressive average.

The Australian chair of selectors the selector has confirmed that captain Pat Cummins will be a central figure in this winter's historic rivalry.

Rumors had circulated that the 32-year-old might sit out due to a stress fracture in his back that remained unresolved.

Earlier indications from the Australian camp suggested no final decision had been made regarding whether he would play, with the Test matches kicking off on 21 November in Perth.

Bailey expressed that his recovery is on track and was "optimistic" about the likelihood of participating.

"We know that time is getting short and various factors at play, not just the physical problem, but further aspects," the selector added.

"The outlook is good. We firmly believe that he will feature a major part. Hopefully it's the first Test. If not, we'll adjust."

Previous Setbacks

Cummins was ruled out the white-ball matches against New Zealand and India in the previous weeks after examinations confirmed a lower back issue.

Previous incidents include of spinal problems, with flare-ups in multiple past seasons forcing him out of multiple domestic campaigns in four years.

Cummins stated he would be bold in recovery efforts in his comeback strategy to ensure his availability for the contest.

The selector indicated that it was unclear if Cummins had begun bowling as part of his recovery but conceded it was "pressing" for him to regain fitness for the first Test.

Backup Options

In case of absence, veteran batsman Smith will assume leadership.

All-rounder Cameron Green was recently pulled out from the ODI lineup for their ODI contests against India as a precautionary measure because of an abdominal issue.

He labeled it as a "slight concern and confirmed that he'll feature in the state-level matches, so will be "well-prepared to deliver overs."

"Extensive planning has gone into building out the plan for him to be available for the initial game as an batting and bowling option," Bailey explained.

"His involvement was limited to the initial matches anyway. His aggressive style the cricket bat in white-ball cricket, even if it just sets him back for another day, we just made the decision to adopt a safer strategy."
